When I was crowned Miss Teen Central British Columbia it came as such a shock to me. I was only fifteen, one of the youngest competitors of my cycle, and I was holding such a title. Now, one year later, I can’t even describe how happy I am about how I had chosen to apply myself to become the next Miss Teen Canada – World. The skills I have learned, the people I have met and the opportunities I’ve now been granted are beyond anything I could’ve imaged for myself. This experience had changed my life.

This weekend marks the official end of my reign. I will be passing on my title (but not my crown :) ) to my “successor” who will hopefully have an equally amazing year as Miss Teen Central British Columbia 2012!

My plans for the future are pretty undefined right now. Beginning of 2013 at the end of my first semester of my senior year I will be graduating early to travel to the Philippines where I will be pursuing modeling before University. After my year there, I will be attending an undecided Medical school somewhere in Canada. As for pageants my plans thus far are to run for Miss Canada – World, and then move onto Miss Universe Canada when I turn 20 aswell as a few pageants in between.

Anyways, just thought I’d update on my plans to wrap up my year.

You can keep updated by following my new Twitter page: @LisaLorraine

Thank you to everyone who has supported me this last year. The exposure I had received was unbelievable. I can’t describe how amazing its been.

xoxo, Lisa

What happens when two very successful organizations partner up to make a change and contribute to countries in need? A big difference in the environment, employment, volunteer services and much more. When Me to We signed onto partnership with Free the Children, it was an ultimate milestone for both foundations.

What is Free the Children?

As Free the Children was founded by Craig Keilburger at the age of only 12 years old in 1995, the organization is powered by volunteering youth that share a passion to ‘free the children’ from poverty and exploitation. This was all compelled over one normal day when Craig Keilburger was looking through the Toronto Star to find himself reading about the horrible murder of a young pakistani boy. After the boy, Iqbal, attempted to speak out against child labor as he was a factory worker for 6 years, he was murdered at the young age of 12. This story brought Craig where he is today. The campaign adopts villages and communities, thus meaning they help develop the community into their full potential. Free the Children volunteers have built more than 650 schools around the globe in over 45 countries. Free the Children  has developed over the years and is now a very successful charity. Today, Free the Children is the world’s largest organization of children helping children through education, more than one million youth involved. That is something for our young generations to be very proud of.

What is Me to We?

Me to We is a social enterprise focused on selling environmentally-friendly products and using the profit towards positive impact on different parts of the world in need. Me to We is idealists coming together for the mission of social change where its needed. The organization is inspired by community, compassion and positive change. In the last year, Me to We has brought together 250,000 youth towards the movement and 1, 300 volunteers served on mission trips. These volunteers worked on the environment involving water, solid waste, trees and greenhouses gases. Me to We has been recognized by many awards for its social entrepreneurship.

the Me to We/FTC Partnership

Both Me to We and Free the Children share founders Craig Keilburger and Marc Keilburger. Although they seem similar, they have two different missions and two different roles. The partnership between Me to We and Free the Children is an agreement towards Me to We donating half of its profit to Free the Children. Every year since 2007 Free the Children also holds We Day which celebrates the power young people have given towards change for the better. We Day is free of charge and even showcased different artists like K’Naan and Sarah McLaughlan last year. Free the Children has many restrictions on how it can operate as a registered charity in Canada and its very limited towards things such as offering international volunteer travelling and scaling to sell products. This means that Me to We does what Free the Children cannot as a separate enterprise. Together, their possibilities are endless.

Miss Teen Canada & Free the Children

The company of Miss Teen Canada – World  is always proud to say that they have a charitable alliance with this great program. Each delegate is asked to raise $400 towards the charity for the national pageant. Only last year the delegates raised $73, 000. Most of the girls raised even more money than what was asked! The winner of Miss Teen Canada is rewarded with a missions trip where she will be honored to build schools and join the movement.

To donate to either of these charities visit their websites given in the links above. The stories they share about mission trips are so inspiring and may drive you to join into their movements :) I’ll be holding a Free the Children fundraiser soon enough before Toronto!

Love, Lisa

Imagine a town where you have no need to drive to the mall – you can easily ride your bike and arrive within 10 minutes. Imagine a town where every time you go grocery shopping or out to eat you’re bound to run into someone you know – new friends and old. Imagine a town where everyone you meet treats you like family. You’re thinking of 100 Mile House in the interior of British Columbia. To me, 100 Mile House is the perfect combination of the city and the country. There are many stores, but wildlife is extremely popular in 100 Mile House from a variety of birds, beavers and even bears.

Whenever I tell someone where I live they always answer the same way. “100 Mile House?Without going into too much detail, the “100 Mile” in our town’s name is in reference to how we are exactly 100 miles from Lillooet (Mile 0). Back when the Cariboo Wagon Road was used, 100 Mile House was popular stop on gold seekers’ way to Barkerville.

To give you an idea as to where we are located geographically, 100 Mile House is located within south-central British Columbia on the Fraser Plateau. Further north is the Central Cariboo and further South is the Thompson-Okanagan region.

100 Mile House is unique in every sense. For one, our park is absolutely stunning and there is a waterfall running right through the town which you don’t see very often. The park, just east of downtown is well known for its fun playground, relaxing creek and tennis courts. There are also campground facilities. Another unique fact is the old historic pieces from the time of the Gold Rush are still kept, from an original wagon to even an ancient store. If you’re looking for historic sites 100 Mile is your stop.

100 Mile House is a town of variety. We’re famous for our annual Rodeo which takes place beside the beautiful 100 Mile Marsh in the core of town and also for the Hills Health Ranch which specializes in fitness, weight loss, hiking and world class cuisine. Massages and facials are popular in the spa section of the ranch. The Hills Health Ranch is on 20000 acres of land which you can horseback ride on, ski and snowboard. During the four distinct seasons 100 Mile House bares, it’s easy to explore the land by mountain bike, motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile, horses or simply by foot!

Visit the Parkside Gallery for a taste of the local artist work in 100 Mile House. We have a very strong artists’ community. The Gallery’s giftshop offers locally-crafted items, pottery and woodwork, and also art cards. Along Birch Avenue, the famous street running through the middle of our town, you can find many boutiques and successful, locally operated businesses. An assortment of restaurants, stores and salons are easily found and gives you access to everything you need!

Our town may be small, but it is the host to many lively events and festivals! In the summer you can attend the annual Car Show, Garlic Fest or the Relay for Life. The events are amusing and family-friendly with lots to do. Canada Day at the Heritage Site is always packed and loaded with unique activities, such as taking a helicopter ride over the 108 lake! Did I mention 100 Mile House is right in the center of hundreds of lakes? Boating and tubing is in your favor during the summer season.

Have you ever found yourself wondering where are the world’s biggest skis? Probably not – but look no further than 100 Mile House, where beside the Visitor’s Center across from the marsh, we are home to the world’s biggest skis.

As I’m moving to Kelowna, I’m so happy to have shared with the excellence of my hometown. I’m so proud of 100 Mile House and all it has to offer for its tiny population of only 1900 in the interior. If you’re looking for a great place to spend time with your family, 100 Mile House is your destination :)

One of the most significant goals on my Bucket List: travel to every continent.

My father is Caucasian, born in Canada, but my mother was born in the beautiful country of the Philippines, a tropical cluster of islands in Southern Asia. The Philippines is full of so much culture, it’s practically overwhelming! You have singing, dancing, cooking, the monthly festivals, the friendly people, the Catholic Religion, the extensive history! The climate is almost always above 30 degrees Celsius and since the Philippines is composed of over one thousand islands, you find a white sand beach around every corner! What more can you ask for in a vacation? Just don’t make the mistake I did – drink the tap water. Especially if you’re used to the luxury, already purified, 100 percent bacteria free water we are fortunate to have in Canada!

If you’re wondering where I got my musical talents from, it would have to be from the influence of my family halfway across the world. A night at the Montallana household is full of music music music (namely karaoke), laughing, eating fruit and reuniting with yet another branch of the family! I swear, every time I visit the Philippines, three times now for over two months each, I’m introduced to a dozen more family members. The Philippines is my home. It’s the most breathtaking country in the world to me.

As I grew older I found there was much more beyond the beautiful landscapes my mother called home. Struggles faced in the Philippines are along the lines of poverty, pollution and a poor educational system as many other third-world countries have. When I was young, I’d always felt compelled to be successful. In other words, I wanted to be rich and have everything. My parents decided to take me on my first trip to the Philippines where I witnessed children my age with literally nothing except the clothes on their back, torn to rags. I witnessed homes with roofs made of leaves and the bricks on the sides crumbling. I didn’t want anything anymore. My purpose since then has been to help and back then at only 5 years of age, when I bought bags of bread to feed their stomachs nothing felt more fulfilling.

That was my first step towards helping those in need – take yours and donate to a trusted poverty charity. Believe me when I say every dollar counts! Just thought I’d share this unique experience!

M a y 8 – 1 2 t h

I spent my time helping with South Cariboo Idol (www.southcaribooidol.com) which will soon just be Cariboo Idol, stretching across Central British Columbia. There were 10 girls selected from many competitors and it’s said that this is our strongest group yet!

May 12th I was fortunate enough to be a judge to choose the best Beatles singer who would sing with the band “Fab Fourever” that performed a Beatles tribute last weekend. This was to kick off Western Week. The winner was Anna who impressed everyone with her version of I’ve Just Seen A Face.

We are all also very lucky to work with Monika Paterson who is the official photographer to the events that are put together, our next one being the Cancer Relay for Life on June 11th.

Unfortunately the Little Britches Parade, a staple tradition to the town, was cancelled. It was supposed to run on the 21st. Regency Chrysler had lent the South Cariboo Idols a truck at which I’d be in the back of which we were all excited for! Hopefully the parade will happen at a later date.

Above is Larry Rode, radio host of The Wolf and Rob Fry of South Cariboo Community Concerts.

On this date I attended the Rutland MayDays Fair where I spoke on stage about the pageant. I met a big group people interested in what I’m taking part of and the afternoon was spent answering questions and even going on the rides provided by West Coast Amusements. It was a beautiful day and over 5,000 people around the region attended. So successful! :)

Not even two months until Toronto, ahhh :)

This is all still a shock to me. What an amazing experience and my year has barely even started yet.

On the first weekend of March, I was announced one of the top 18 girls from British Columbia out of hundreds in the running for Miss Teen Canada – World 2011. Could I be anymore blessed?

This site is for you to connect with me and get to know me, the first ever Miss Teen Central British Columbia, during my year of reign. I will be updating with my current events, my travels, among many other things.

T h e P a g e a n t

For the people who aren’t very familiar with Miss Teen Canada, I will be judged on many aspects such as interview, swim wear, evening wear and modelling. I’m also asked to raise money for the pageant’s official charity, Free The Children which I’m excited for. I’ve raised over five thousand for the Relay for Life, so I’m familiar with raising money for a great cause. This pageant is an opportunity for girls to speak about what they’re passionate to change in this world, be introduced to media related activities, among many other things.

A b o u t L i s a

My mother is a full filipina, having been born in the beautiful country of the Philippines, and my father is full Caucasian. I’m fluent in both English and French as I’m currently enrolled in the French Immersion program. Recently, I visited Quebec and in the course of my lifetime I’ve also been to Hong Kong and the Philippines.

I grew up in a small community of only a few thousand people in the interior of British Columbia. From the very beginning I’ve always been active in the performing arts! Singing, dancing, playing instruments. I’ve won over 15 awards, working hard to achieve recognition through the community of my love of music. That being said, although it’s not a portion of judging, I will also be vying for a spot at the Toronto Talent Convention by singing while playing piano at the National pageant.

Thanks to our sponsor Shasha Bread Co for providing healthy snacks for our event and to the Miss Teen Canada team for putting on a great show!

I hope you enjoy my blog, which I could not have done without the help of the Internet marketing firm PageOne. They did a great job with this site!
